ADT Bites

A recent commercial by ADT prompted me to start this blog.  I know probably not the best reason for blogging but ADT really ticked me off about 3 years ago.  I had been with ADT for Seven years while living in Virginia and was satisfied with the service and costs, however when I moved to Ohio that all changed.  I decided to take them up on the offer to "transfer" my system to a new home if I moved.  Well that didn't work out, I was put in touch with a "contractor" who evaluated my new home and advised me on the components I would need.  $1200 later (some free transfer) I had all the equipment I needed for the new house along with "free" installation. I should have pulled the plug right then but not knowing any other companies I sucked up the cost and had the system installed.  Mistake number 2, I did not read the FINE print of the paperwork I signed (yes I know that is my responsibility and I am usually pretty good about it) but with moving and everything else I slipped up and didn't read the pages and pages of fine print.  This would come back to bite me in the butt later.  Anyway I got the system in and running and from day one we were getting false alarms, glass break sensors were "falling" off the ceiling (poor glue or something) and within 6 months I was ready to tear the system out.  We were constantly being harrased with dead batter signals or some other problem with some component of the system which would make the main control panel beep and beep constantly (it actually kept us awake at night).  three service calls later at $35 per visit (they charge even when it was their problem with equipment still under warranty), I canceled my service.  This is when the "Fine" print came into play, remember the "transfer" of service from Virginia to Ohio, well that was all BS I signed a contract for another 3 years of service because of the discount on the equipment (now I crappy equipment and usually you get that for FREE when you sign a contract).  So rather than working with me to correct the problem they simply told me to "pay up" for the remaining 2.5 years of the contract at $40 per month.  I told them to jump in the lake because I had already had their service for 7 years.  Well about 3 months later I got a call from a collection agency threating to take me to court and to report me to the credit agencies.  I ended up paying for the remaining portion of the service just to make them go away.

I WILL NEVER, EVER have anything to do with ADT for the rest of my life and were I use to recommend the company to my friends I now recommend they go with anyone BUT ADT.  If you stumble across this post  because you are considering ADT please take my advise and go with a different company.  I'm sure all have there good and bad points however I would not expect to have gotten such crappy equipment, poor customer  service and then the audacity to sue me for the remainder of a contract that I should never have been in.  And if you go with any company ALWAYS read the fine print.

ADT is Crap
ADT Sucks
ADT has rotten customer service
ADT is a bunch of crooks
ADT should be ashamed.

the above will hopefully catch the search engine!

This is just my opinion but I'll never use ADT again.

James.
